Faculty of Health Studies/Centre for Critical Studies of Rural Mental Health Grant

Annual DEADLINE: May 15th (second Call: October)

A Faculty of Health Studies and the Centre for Critical Studies of Rural Mental Health Research Grant is available to Primary Investigators who are tenured and tenure track faculty in Health Studies or to co-primary investigators from Health Studies and the Centre. The total amount of funding available annually is $10,000. Individual grants will not exceed $2,500. The funding year coincides with the fiscal year (April 1 to March 31). Application deadline is May 15. If all of the monies are not allocated, a second call will occur in October.

The Health Studies and the Centre for Critical Studies of Rural Mental Health Research Grant is peer reviewed by an academic faculty member from the Department of Nursing, an academic faculty member from the Department of Psychiatric Nursing, and an external member appointed by the Manitoba Centre for Nursing and Health Research. Each faculty member serves on the Review Committee for a 2 year term.

New Investigator Operating Grants are designed to defray the normal direct costs of research including, among others where applicable, personnel costs, supplies and expendable materials, experimental animals, equipment, computer costs, and publication costs. These funds are also intended to help establish independent research programs within the province and achieve the research productivity necessary for obtaining longer term and more substantial funding from the national and other external agencies.

Community Grants

Healthy Together Now

Intake Dates:  May 1, August 1, November 1 and February 1

Up to $5000.00

Healthy Together Now (HTN) is a community led program, regionally coordinated and government supported initiative to help prevent chronic disease in Manitoba.  Communities within Prairie Mountain Health can apply for funds to implement programs that focus on healthy eating, physical activity, mental well-being and tobacco prevention and reduction.


Suicide Prevention Implementation Network (SPIN)

Deadline: Annually in SPRINg

Up to $1500.00

Each year SPIN provides funding to a maximum of $1500 for groups/organizations to offer programs or events to make Brandon and area suicide-safer.  Those receiving grants will hold SPIN membership and will be required to submit a final report and receipts by March 1 the following year.  Recipients may also be required to provide updates at SPIN meetings and do a presentation to SPIN members at the conclusion of the project.  The amount received will depend on the number of grants requested, as well as the number of people involved/impacted.
